Queen's Award 2020

Kaymet are thrilled to have been awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category.

Our 73 year old company is one of 220 organisations in the UK recognised this year with this prestigious award. 35 London businesses have received the award today, and Kaymet is the only one in Peckham! We are now able to use the esteemed Queen’s Awards emblem for the next five years.

We will celebrate the award during a royal reception for Queen’s Awards winners later this year at Buckingham Palace.

This Royal recognition follows Kaymet’s success increasing the number of countries exported to and achieving outstanding short-term international trade growth. Currently Kaymet export to around 40 nations, with their products stocked by more than 140 overseas re-sellers, and used by many hotels, restaurants and cafes beyond British shores. Over a 3 year period exports grew by 212% and last year they made-up 67% of the company’s turnover. Germany, France, USA, South Korea and Switzerland, account for an estimated 60% of these export sales. This complements a x3.5 expansion of all Kaymet’s sales over the past 6 years.

News of the honour reached Kaymet via an uplifting email from the Queen’s Awards Office stating:
"I am delighted to inform you that Her Majesty The Queen has approved the Prime Minister’s recommendation that your company should receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category this year. The Award is the most prestigious for UK businesses and this is a tremendous achievement. Your business now joins just over 7,000 UK enterprises which have received this Royal recognition since the Awards were established in 1965."

Kaymet Proprietor Mark Brearley had this to say:
“The landing of this award has cheered us up at this difficult time. We are so lucky to have a skilled team of local people, and this honour is shared by them all. We look forward to welcoming the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant for Southwark to our factory near the Old Kent Road before long, for a winner’s presentation ceremony that is sure to make use of our classic trays and trolleys. As soon as crowds are safe again we will rustle one up to witness the hoisting of the blue and yellow Queen’s Award flag above Kaymet Works, and it will be visible fluttering from far away over the Asda car park.”

Kaymet General Manager Ken Schreiber commented:
“My late father Sydney, who launched Kaymet 73 years ago, would have been so proud to see the company receive this award. I am extremely happy that we are still thriving here in Peckham and sharing our wares with the world."
